Powerful Jalisco Cartel Accused in Czech Arms Deal, Four Affiliates Charged in Weapons-for-Drugs Plot

Prosecutors accuse four alleged affiliates of Mexico’s Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) of plotting to exchange fentanyl and meth for military-style weapons in the Czech Republic. U.S. Justice Department filings say the defendants sought machine guns, rocket-propelled grenade launchers, mortar launchers and ammunition intended for violence against rivals, civilians, police and military personnel in Mexico. Two suspects were extradited to the U.S. and made initial court appearances in Tampa; two others awaited extradition from Europe.
