Polish Defense Minister Fends Off Criticism Over Sending Patriot Missiles to Ukraine

Polish Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz has pushed back against criticism over reports that Poland transferred Patriot interceptor missiles to Ukraine, saying declassified information shows the decision process involved the proper security structures.

Kosiniak-Kamysz said President Karol Nawrocki’s entourage was “lying” by asserting that the president had not known about the transfer. He said the issue was raised during meetings of the Council of Ministers’ Security Committee, attended by a representative of the National Security Bureau, with meetings held on specific February and March dates.

He also said officials from the president’s side were informed, and that NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte discussed the matter directly with Nawrocki. The minister argued that the dispute is being used politically rather than reflecting how the decision was actually handled.

Separate reporting also described the controversy as part of a wider political fight in Poland, after far-right lawmakers claimed the government had not informed parliament about expensive and hard-to-replace Patriot interceptor missiles allegedly provided to Kyiv in March.
