Police Officer Shot in Nottingham City Centre—Major Emergency Response Underway

NOTTINGHAM, UK — A major police manhunt is underway in Nottingham city centre after a police officer was shot in the early hours of Sunday morning, October 18, 2026.

The officer sustained a gunshot wound to his foot after approaching two suspects on Angel Row shortly before 4:50 a.m. Emergency services swiftly swarmed the area, and the wounded officer was transported to a local hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.

Following the discharge of the firearm, a man and a woman fled the scene and remain at large. Nottinghamshire Police confirmed that a firearm was successfully recovered at the scene. A large cordon remains in place around Angel Row and surrounding city centre streets as forensic teams, armed officers, and technical analysts conduct scene inquiries and review CCTV footage.

Assistant Chief Constable Claire Rukas of Nottinghamshire Police issued a statement regarding the incident: "This is a shocking incident and a sobering reminder of the potential dangers faced by officers as they work to protect and serve the public. As we investigate what happened and work to apprehend the individuals involved, my thoughts today are with the injured officer, his family and colleagues.

I also ask that anyone with additional information shares this with us without delay. Even the smallest bit of information could make all the difference to this investigation."

Police are urging anyone who was in the vicinity of Angel Row around 4:50 a.m. or who has relevant footage or information to contact Nottinghamshire Police immediately on 101, quoting incident 106 of October 18, 2026.

Local businesses along Angel Row and nearby market areas were instructed to remain closed or adjust their operating hours as officers maintained the active crime scene into Sunday afternoon. City transit authorities reported minor diversions to local bus routes and tram services passing near the city centre while investigators gathered evidence and completed initial forensic scans. Authorities reassured the public that additional uniformed patrols have been deployed across Nottingham to maintain security while the search for the two suspects continues.
