Peace in Ukraine unlikely soon, Polish PM says; expects Russia to extend conflict

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said it seems “very unlikely” that peace in Ukraine will be reached soon and that Russia is expected to extend the conflict until winter. Speaking after talks in Paris with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, Tusk pointed to Russia’s rigid stance as the main obstacle to a near-term ceasefire or peace agreement. He said allies should prepare for escalation and announced autumn military exercises with French and British forces to strengthen regional security planning.
