MORAN, Assam — At least 29 tea garden workers were injured on Sunday, November 1, 2026 when a transport vehicle carrying them lost control and overturned near Moran, sending shockwaves through the local plantation community.
The accident occurred early in the day as workers were being transported to their daily shifts in the region's expansive tea estates.
Witnesses reported that the vehicle was traveling along the route near Moran when the driver suddenly lost control, causing the vehicle to veer off the main roadway and flip onto its side.
Loud crashes and cries for help immediately drew local residents and passersby to the scene. Nearby onlookers acted swiftly, helping extract trapped workers from the wreckage before emergency services arrived.
"The vehicle lost control and overturned along the shoulder of the road," noted a local responder. "Community members rushed out immediately to assist in pulling the injured workers free."
First responders and local police arrived shortly after the incident to secure the area and organize emergency medical transport.
Due to the number of victims requiring immediate medical attention, the injured workers were distributed across two regional health facilities to ensure prompt care. Dozens of workers received initial stabilization through emergency triage and wound management on-site from responding paramedic teams prior to transport. Following initial care, victims were rushed to nearby medical centers for hospital admission, where doctors treated injuries ranging from fractures and lacerations to severe blunt force trauma.
Authorities confirmed that several workers remain under close medical observation, though no fatalities have been reported.
Local law enforcement officers have launched a formal investigation into the crash to determine whether mechanical failure, road conditions, or vehicle overcrowding contributed to the rollover. The incident has renewed calls from local labor organizers and community leaders for stricter safety regulations and improved transport standards for tea plantation workers throughout the state.
