Overnight Terror: Russian Forces Rain 26 Strikes on Kharkiv, Leaving Multiple Injured

KHARKIV — A relentless wave of overnight attacks has left the city of Kharkiv reeling after Russian forces unleashed a barrage of 26 drone strikes in the early hours of Wednesday, June 10, 2026. The pre-dawn assault ignited multiple fires across residential and industrial sectors, wounding several civilians and sending terrified residents rushing to bomb shelters.

According to Oleh Syniehubov, Head of the Kharkiv Oblast Military Administration, and Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov, the massive aerial onslaught primarily targeted the city’s Kholodnohirskyi district.

The assault began under the cover of darkness as waves of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) penetrated local airspace. Mayor Terekhov reported that around 20 strikes pounded the Kholodnohirskyi district within a matter of minutes, immediately sparking deep-seated fires in built-up areas.

As dawn broke, regional officials updated the tally to 26 recorded strikes across the city. State Emergency Service units rushed to the scene to battle the blazes amidst the ongoing threat of secondary strikes.

"A 68-year-old woman is suffering from shock as a result of Russian strikes on Kharkiv's Kholodnohirskyi district," Syniehubov stated in an early morning brief. By 6:00 a.m. local time, authorities confirmed that the number of injured in that district alone had risen to five.

The bombardment was not confined to a single area. Later reports from municipal authorities confirmed that explosions and drone impacts also rocked the Kyivskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts.

The overnight terror bled into a secondary morning drone assault that struck further residential zones. A Shahed attack drone crashed into a high-rise residential building in the Industrialnyi district, sparking a severe fire on the first and second floors and wounding at least three more people. In the Nemyshlianskyi district, cascading drone debris crashed into local infrastructure, igniting vehicles and causing additional civilian casualties.

The devastating strikes on Kharkiv were part of a wider, highly aggressive overnight air campaign deployed by Moscow. The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russia launched an unprecedented total of 207 drones from seven different directions overnight. The complex mix of ordnance included standard Shahed attack drones, newer jet-powered variants, and various decoy UAVs designed to overwhelm local air defense systems.

While Ukrainian air defense units successfully intercepted 181 of the incoming drones nationwide, at least 21 unintercepted UAVs breached the defensive umbrella, striking 14 different locations across the country.

With the frontline static, Kharkiv continues to bear a disproportionate burden of Russia's long-range campaign. As search and rescue teams continue to clear debris from the charred high-rises and residential streets, municipal authorities warn that the casualty count may continue to climb.
