Łódź, Poland— Two armed men forced their way into a single-family home in Łódź on the night of October 20, 2026, killing one homeowner and leaving a second in critical condition before fleeing into the darkness.
Neighbors on the quiet residential street said they heard shouting around 10:30 p.m., then a loud crash. One woman called 112 after hearing screams. Police arrived to find the front door kicked in, furniture overturned, and two victims inside.
The first victim, a 58-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second, a 54-year-old woman, was found with severe head trauma and stab wounds. Paramedics performed emergency resuscitation in the hallway before rushing her to the University Clinical Hospital. Her condition was described as critical.
Initial findings point to a targeted robbery. Drawers had been pulled out. A safe in the bedroom was open. Police have not confirmed what, if anything, was taken. "We are treating this as an armed burglary that escalated to homicide," a Łódź police commander said. "The level of violence was extreme."
Forensic teams worked under floodlights. They took fingerprints from the broken door frame and collected a crowbar left near the entrance. Blood spatter analysis was conducted inside the living room. A dog unit was deployed to track the suspects through adjacent gardens.
Residents said the street has had a string of break-ins in recent months. Several homes had installed cameras. Investigators are now pulling footage from every camera on the block. One clip, according to a source close to the inquiry, shows two figures in hooded jackets running from the property.
The prosecutor's office has ordered autopsies and secured the house as a crime scene. No arrests had been made by midnight. Police set up checkpoints on roads leading out of the Widzew district.
"This was not a random act of vandalism. These men came prepared," an investigator told Super Express. He said the suspects likely watched the house beforehand.
Police urged anyone who saw unfamiliar vehicles parked in the area after 9 p.m. to come forward.
