One Dead in Cipularang Crash: Massive Multi-Vehicle Pileup Disrupts Traffic on Toll Road Today

Cipularang, Indonesia—The pileup involved five vehicles, including two large trucks, on the busy toll road this afternoon. Metal screamed as the heavy machines collided around 3:30 p.m. today.

Traffic had been slowing down for an earlier minor incident when the chain reaction began. The lead truck failed to stop in time, slamming into the line of stopped cars ahead.

One driver was trapped inside their vehicle as flames briefly flared from the engine block. Firefighters managed to contain the fire, but they could not save the individual inside.

Paramedics treated four other people at the scene for various injuries sustained in the crush. They were transported to a nearby facility for further evaluation once the highway was secured.

The force of the impact left the highway littered with automotive parts and glass. Officers worked for over an hour to direct traffic through a single open lane on the shoulder.

Investigators are looking at dashcam footage to determine which driver initiated the collision. The speed at which the trucks were traveling is a primary point of concern for the police.

Commuters heading toward Bandung faced massive delays that stretched back several kilometers. Many drivers shut off their engines and waited on the side of the road as the cleanup continued.

Heavy machinery was brought in to move the mangled vehicles to a holding area. The highway remains partially restricted while road crews check the integrity of the barrier walls.

Officials warn that the lanes will not be fully operational until later this evening. They are asking motorists to exercise extreme caution when navigating this stretch of the toll road.
