An explosion at MC Tank Transport in Toledo, Ohio, led officials to order evacuations and shelter-in-place measures after a tank containing glycidyl methacrylate ruptured. More than 900 residents within a one-mile radius were told to leave, while people within three miles were advised to stay indoors. Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz said responders were keeping back because the chemical could ignite or explode again. Authorities were assessing toxic exposure and urged residents to close windows and seek advice if they developed symptoms.
