Nun speaks out for first time about being detained by ICE while walking to Mass in Texas

A Catholic nun in South Texas, Sister Leticia “Letty” Ugboaja, spoke publicly for the first time after being detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers while walking to Sunday Mass in her habit. Ugboaja, who is from Nigeria, said she wants others in similar situations—people with legal protections who still face uncertainty—to have a chance to be heard. She was released hours after her detention on June 28 after intervention by members of Congress and public attention from the parish.
