Nobody Claimed the Latest Airstrikes Against Iran

No one claimed responsibility for airstrikes that hit Iran after the U.S. said it had completed its own attacks, according to reporting from the region.

The strikes reported Thursday hit areas across southern Iran as Iran prepared to hold ceremonies for the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran’s government and officials did not directly blame any actor for the explosions, and no immediate claim came from Israel or Gulf Arab states either.

U.S. Central Command said it had ended a round of strikes that targeted roughly 90 sites, but shortly afterward Iranian state media and outlets reported additional attacks affecting locations including Bushehr and parts of Sistan and Baluchestan province, as well as cities such as Ahvaz and Chabahar.

The U.S. did not confirm the additional strikes and Central Command did not provide an explanation when asked for comment. Iran’s response to the earlier U.S. campaign included a wider volley of attacks across the Middle East, with missile alert sirens sounded in Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait and Qatar.

The lack of responsibility for the latest airstrikes adds to the uncertainty around an already fragile U.S.-Iran ceasefire framework, with Washington and Tehran continuing to trade accusations and signals about the status of negotiations.
