Nightmare Blaze Claims Young Lives: 2 Children Dead in Benalmadena After Ground-Floor Apartment Catches Fire

BENALMADENA, SPAIN — A profound sense of shock and mourning has gripped the Costa del Sol following a devastating residential fire in Benalmadena that claimed the lives of two children. The fast-moving blaze trapped occupants in the early hours of the morning, prompting a massive emergency response and widespread evacuations.

The tragedy unfolded during the early hours of Thursday morning, July 30, 2026 on CalleÓnix in the Arroyo de la Miel district of Benalmadena, Málaga. According to the 112 Andalucía emergency services, calls began flooding dispatch lines at approximately 5:40 a.m. reporting a fierce fire inside a flat of a four-storey residential building.

The flames quickly turned aggressive, spreading outward from the apartment where the fire originated and heavily impacting neighboring homes. The rapid escalation filled stairwells with thick, toxic smoke and forced the urgent evacuation of residents across multiple floors before dawn.

Fire crews from Benalmadena, alongside backup units from Mijas and Fuengirola, rushed to the scene alongside the National Police, Local Police, and specialized medical teams. Upon arrival, firefighters found the blaze well-developed and immediately launched entry and rescue operations.
