Speaking to CNN, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he and U.S. President Donald Trump “see eye to eye” on major issues, while acknowledging there have been “occasional disagreements” between them on Iran. He urged caution regarding any Iran ceasefire, saying it was “too early” to judge outcomes.
Netanyahu said Trump should be given a chance to pursue his approach to Iran, including negotiations to halt Iran’s nuclear program, though he personally expressed doubts.
In the same interview, Netanyahu said he strongly opposes Washington considering the sale of F-35 fighter jets to Turkey. He warned that providing Turkey fifth-generation aircraft would “destroy the power balance in the Middle East,” arguing Turkey has “aggressive aspirations” and that granting it such capabilities would likely be followed by increased aggression.
The comments came after Trump signaled that the U.S. would lift sanctions on Turkey and said a potential F-35 sale to Ankara was “certainly something we will consider,” according to the reporting. Netanyahu described Turkey as not being a “model ally” of the United States and criticized Ankara’s regional posture.
