Mt. Olive Pickles withdraws from Great American State Fair after Confederate flag appears at NC booth

Mt. Olive Pickles has pulled out of the Great American State Fair in Washington, D.C., after a Confederate flag appeared on screens inside North Carolina’s booth, prompting backlash and calls for removal.

The dispute emerged after photos and video of the display were shared online. North Carolina’s governor, Josh Stein, condemned the flag and said it did not reflect the state’s values. His office said the imagery was removed once officials learned about it.

In a statement posted to X, Mt. Olive Pickle Co. said it was not aware that the Confederate flag appeared in a video running at the exhibit. The company said it is withdrawing its participation, adding that it stands for “human dignity, opportunity, and freedom.”

The fair is tied to the nation’s 250th anniversary celebrations and is hosted by Freedom 250, an organization created by President Donald Trump. North Carolina did not sponsor the booth itself, according to earlier reporting—rather, the exhibit was organized by private sponsors after the state opted out.
