MPs Back Assisted-Dying Legislation in England and Wales

Contrary to the headline, MPs did not vote against legalising assisted dying in England and Wales. The House of Commons approved the Terminally Ill Adults Bill in June 2025 by 314 votes to 291, sending it to the House of Lords. In February 2026, the Welsh Parliament voted 28–23 to support implementing the legislation in Wales if it becomes law. The proposal would give terminally ill, mentally competent adults a choice under strict safeguards and parliamentary scrutiny and medical oversight
