Moving MG Hector Catches Fire on Delhi’s Dhaula Kuan Flyover

NEW DELHI — A moving MG Hector SUV caught fire on the bustling Dhaula Kuan flyover in central-west Delhi, causing temporary traffic disruptions and panic among commuters. The incident took place on the busy carriageway leading towards Karol Bagh.

Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported.

The situation unfolded rapidly when the driver noticed smoke and flames emanating from the vehicle while traversing the flyover. Realizing the impending danger, the driver immediately pulled the SUV over to the side of the road, allowing the occupants to exit safely before the fire intensified. Within moments, heavy flames engulfed the front section of the SUV, sending thick plumes of dark smoke into the air.

Emergency services were alerted, and a fire tender was swiftly dispatched to the scene. Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control and extinguish it completely. However, the vehicle sustained extensive damage from the fire.

The sudden blaze on a key arterial route connecting south Delhi and the airport to central hubs like Karol Bagh triggered severe traffic delays. In response, Delhi Traffic Police personnel were deployed to manage vehicular flow and secure the surrounding area while emergency teams operated. Once the fire was extinguished and the scene deemed safe, the charred remains of the vehicle were cleared from the carriageway to restore normal traffic flow.

Meanwhile, local authorities launched an investigation into the exact cause of the incident; while vehicle fires are typically examined for potential mechanical failures, short circuits, or aftermarket electrical modifications, official details regarding the car's owner or maintenance history have not yet been released.

In light of the incident, automotive safety experts have reiterated the importance of regular vehicle maintenance and caution regarding aftermarket electrical fittings. With modern vehicles incorporating complex electronic systems, unauthorized wiring or improper maintenance can significantly elevate the risk of short circuits and thermal events. Authorities continue to urge drivers to pull over immediately at the first sign of smoke or unusual burning odors, as prompt action remains critical to preventing potential injuries during sudden vehicle fires.
