Marseille, France— One person was killed Saturday in a motorbike ambush shooting in the northern districts of Marseille.
The shooting happened at 4:55 p.m. on October 25, 2026 on Avenue de la Viste in the 15th arrondissement. The victim, a 26-year-old man, was standing beside a parked car near a housing block. Two men on a TMax scooter pulled alongside and opened fire.
French National Police said the shooters fired at least seven times with a 9mm pistol. The victim was hit in the chest and head and collapsed beside the vehicle. The scooter fled south toward Saint-Antoine. No helmet plates were visible.
Residents called police after hearing rapid shots. Officers arrived within six minutes and found the victim unresponsive. Fire brigade medics attempted resuscitation but pronounced him dead at the scene at 5:12 p.m. The area was sealed off.
"This is a classic ambush pattern. Two on a bike, close range, then immediate flight," a police source at the scene said. "We are looking at a settlement of accounts linked to drug points in La Viste and La Busserine."
Le Figaro reported the victim was known to police for narcotics trafficking and had been under surveillance in a case involving a competing network in the northern quarters. His name was not released. No bystanders were injured, though a parked car and a building facade were struck.
Northern Marseille has seen repeated motorbike shootings this year. Police data shows 18 fatal shootings in the sector since January, most tied to turf battles over cannabis and cocaine retail.
Forensic teams recovered seven casings and a dropped mobile phone near the scooter’s path. CCTV from a local grocery store captured the scooter entering the avenue at high speed. Officers went door-to-door for additional footage.
The prosecutor’s office opened a murder investigation under the organized crime unit. No arrests had been made by evening.
The street remained cordoned while investigators mapped bullet trajectories. Residents watched from balconies.
