FLORIANA, Malta — A 36-year-old man from Msida is in critical condition and clinging to life after a horrific, single-vehicle accident along National Road (Triq Nazzjonali) in Floriana during the early hours of Saturday morning, July 18, 2026.

The violent impact, which occurred under the cover of darkness, has left the driver with severe, life-threatening injuries and triggered an intensive investigation by local authorities.

The silence of the early morning was shattered at approximately 2:00 a.m. when emergency dispatchers received urgent reports of a severe traffic collision. Preliminary investigations conducted by district police indicate that the 36-year-old was behind the wheel of a Ford Kuga, traveling down the major arterial thoroughfare, when he suddenly lost control of the vehicle.

The SUV veered sharply off the roadway and mounted the pavement before slamming head-on into a mature tree. The sheer force of the high-speed impact completely crumpled the front end of the vehicle, trapping the unconscious driver inside the mangled wreckage.
