DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Residents and business owners in Barangay Mintal woke up to a sudden disruption on Thursday morning, July 16, 2026 after a wing van truck slammed into a major electric post, cutting off both power and water services across the area.

The incident, which occurred during the early morning rush hours, brought local traffic to a crawl and left utility companies scrambling to repair the extensive damage.

According to local traffic authorities, the wing van truck was navigating a segment of the main highway in Barangay Mintal when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle. The truck veered off course, crashing head-on into a concrete electric pole with enough force to snap the structure and leave it leaning dangerously over the roadway.

The impact immediately tripped the local electrical grid, plunging homes, schools, and commercial establishments into sudden darkness.

The damage quickly cascaded into a double utility crisis: the destroyed pole brought down high-voltage distribution lines, knocking out electricity across a wide swath of the barangay. This localized blackout subsequently disabled the electric-powered booster pumps responsible for maintaining regional water pressure, leaving taps dry shortly after the collision.
