Morning Blaze: Fire Rips Through Abandoned Baesa Warehouse in Quezon City

QUEZON CITY, PHILIPPINES — An early morning rush hour took a dramatic turn on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, after a massive fire broke out at a derelict, abandoned warehouse in Barangay Baesa. The blaze lit up the morning sky, sending thick plumes of dark smoke visible from nearby thoroughfares and disrupting the early commute for local residents.

According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Quezon City field office, the fire began at approximately 7:00 AM. Because the structure had been abandoned for some time, there were no initial staffs or operations inside when the flames first sparked.

However, the presence of older structural materials and potential debris inside the warehouse caused the fire to spread rapidly through the facility. Within minutes of the first emergency call, responding firefighters found the warehouse heavily engulfed in flames.

"We saw heavy black smoke rising just as we were opening our shop," a local resident remarked. "The fire spread very fast across the roof area, but luckily the building was empty."

Firefighting teams from multiple local stations and volunteer brigades rushed to the scene. Given the warehouse’s location in the busy Baesa district, first responders prioritized containing the perimeter to prevent the fierce morning inferno from leaping onto adjacent commercial properties and residential areas.

The BFP reported that the fire was successfully brought under control after an intense battle against the heat and smoke. Fortunately, due to the abandoned nature of the building, no casualties or civilian injuries were reported at the scene.

As cooling operations continue to douse the remaining hot spots within the charred skeleton of the warehouse, local arson investigators have cordoned off the area.

The BFP has launched a full investigation to determine the exact origin and cause of the early morning fire. Authorities are currently looking into whether faulty old electrical wiring or external factors triggered the blaze. City officials are also expected to evaluate the structural integrity of the remaining walls to ensure public safety in the neighborhood.
