“Morning at the Loading Bay, Then Silence: A Life Cut Short in Ulu Tiram”

In the quiet rhythm of a busy industrial yard, the hum of engines and the shuffle of goods can create a sense of order and purpose — a predictable cadence in the tapestry of daily work. But sometimes, the unexpected interrupts even the most familiar scenes, leaving behind a profound stillness where motion once was. In Ulu Tiram, Johor, a moment meant for routine quickly became a tragic pause in one man’s life, reminding all who witnessed it how fragile existence can be amid the simplest of tasks.

On the morning of January 16, police responded to a distressing report in an industrial area of Ulu Tiram where a 55‑year‑old lorry driver was fatally injured after being pinned between two vehicles. According to law enforcement officials, the incident occurred at around 10.10 am while the victim was waiting his turn at a loading bay.

Seri Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Sohaimi Ishak explained that the victim had stepped out of his vehicle to proceed toward the security guard post. At that moment, another lorry — driven by a 58‑year‑old man parked on a slope — rolled forward because its handbrake was not engaged. The moving lorry struck the victim’s vehicle, causing the victim’s own lorry to shift forward and crush him against a van nearby.

Emergency responders pronounced the man dead at the scene due to severe internal injuries, and his body was later taken to Pasir Gudang Hospital for a post‑mortem examination. Authorities have classified the case as an investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, relating to reckless or dangerous driving.

Police officials seized the moment to remind the public of the importance of road safety and caution in all vehicle operations, urging drivers to observe traffic regulations and exercise patience, particularly in work zones or high‑risk environments. Witnesses with information are encouraged to come forward to assist the investigation.

The tragic death of a lorry driver in Ulu Tiram underscores how quickly normal routines can turn devastating when safety measures are overlooked or lapses occur. As the investigation continues, authorities stress vigilance and adherence to basic safety practices — small steps that, in the delicate balance of life and loss, can matter immeasurably.
