Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has sent a firm message to Turkey, saying Athens will not seek permission for decisions involving sovereignty, defense, or maritime policy. Speaking after the NATO summit in Ankara, he cited Greece’s plans to connect islands, establish marine parks, advance maritime planning, explore hydrocarbons south of Crete, and strengthen its armed forces. Mitsotakis said Greece would not negotiate maritime boundaries from weakness, while emphasizing that defending national interests should not require permanent tension between neighbors.
