Barpeta Road Town after two teenage boys were tragically struck and killed by a train late Tuesday night, June 23, 2026. The closely-knit community has been plunged into mourning over the sudden loss of two young lives.

The deceased have been identified as 16-year-old Jahangir Alam, a student at B.H. College, and 17-year-old Mostafa Khan, who was pursuing his higher secondary studies at Dronacharya Academy.

According to local residents, the two teenagers were inseparable friends who shared a deeply rooted aspiration: both dreamed of joining the Indian Army. To achieve this goal, the duo maintained a rigorous physical fitness regimen, regularly running together along the area's routes during their morning and evening practice sessions.

On Tuesday evening, the boys left their homes for their routine physical training. However, anxiety began to build among their families when the hours passed and the teenagers failed to return home long after dark.

As concern escalated, family members alongside local residents launched an intensive search operation across the neighborhood and its surrounding areas. The desperate search culminated in heartbreak at approximately 11:00 PM when the mutilated bodies of the two boys were discovered lying on the railway tracks at Barpeta Road.

Because multiple trains had passed through that particular section of the railway line over the course of the night, authorities noted it was initially difficult to pinpoint exactly which train was involved in the fatal strike.

Upon being alerted to the grim discovery, personnel from the Barpeta Road Police Station, accompanied by railway police officials, rushed to the site to secure the scene and recover the bodies.

Local authorities have since initiated a formal investigation to piece together the sequence of events and ascertain the exact circumstances that led the two aspiring soldiers onto the tracks during the fatal incident.
