DALLAS — A massive outdoor party in the Oak Cliff neighborhood ended in terror early Sunday morning after a gunman opened fire into a large crowd, sending dozens of panicking partygoers running for cover and leaving three people hospitalized with gunshot wounds.
The shooting marks another volatile incident of weekend gun violence that Dallas police are aggressively working to piece together.
According to the Dallas Police Department, officers responded to multiple urgent emergency calls reporting shots fired in the 4500 block of Village Fair Drive, located in the heart of Oak Cliff, at approximately 12:45 AM on Sunday, June 21, 2026.
Upon arrival, first responders encountered a scene of utter chaos, with hundreds of people trying to flee the area in vehicles and on foot. According to preliminary witness accounts, a large, impromptu block party had been underway in a commercial parking lot when an unidentified individual pulled out a firearm and began firing indiscriminately into the dense gathering.
"Everyone was just listening to music and having a good time when out of nowhere, we heard ten to fifteen rapid-fire pops," said one witness who declined to give their name. "People started dropping to the ground, and everybody else just ran for their lives. It was pure survival mode."
Dallas Fire-Rescue units rushed to the scene alongside police to treat victims amidst the confusion. Authorities confirmed that three individuals sustained gunshot wounds during the melee.
Paramedics transported two victims directly to a local trauma center, while a third victim was rushed to the emergency room via a private vehicle before first responders arrived. While police have not released the identities or exact ages of the victims, officials confirmed that all three are currently in stable condition and are expected to survive their injuries.
The shooter fled the scene immediately following the gunfire, taking advantage of the darkness and the stampeding crowd to evade responding officers.
Detectives from the Dallas Police Assault Unit spent most of Sunday morning combing the area for bullet casings, reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses, and interviewing witnesses. At this time, no suspects have been publicly identified, and the motive behind the shooting remains unclear.
The Dallas Police Department is urging anyone with cell phone video of the gathering or information regarding the identity of the shooter to come forward and contact the homicide and assault division immediately.
