Mélenchon Wants to End Nuclear Cooperation With Germany Over “Deterrence” Role

Jean-Luc Mélenchon has vowed to end or roll back French nuclear cooperation with Germany if he wins the presidency in 2027. The left-wing candidate criticized France’s decisions with Berlin on defense and deterrence, arguing that any commitments made by President Emmanuel Macron would be reconsidered “from A to Z.” Mélenchon also rejected ideas that could lead to shared control or a “shared command” approach for France’s nuclear deterrent, calling such an outcome unacceptable and saying Parliament should have been consulted.
