Mediazona and the BBC Russian service have documented 282,993 Russian military personnel killed in Ukraine, identifying each by name. The tally covers deaths from February 24, 2022, through October 23, 2026. Since the previous update in early October, researchers added 6,880 names. They caution that the list is a confirmed minimum, not a complete count, since it relies on publicly available records such as obituaries, family posts and regional reports. The actual toll is likely higher, journalists warn, they add.
