Massive Fireworks Depot Blaze Triggers Explosions In Suphan Buri, Homes Damaged, Fire Crews Overwhelmed

Suphan Buri, Thailand— A storage building at a fireworks factory caught fire and exploded in a series of blasts at 11:15 a.m. on October 30, 2026, sending rockets and shells into surrounding houses and rice fields in Mueang Suphan Buri district.

The facility, Siam Pyro Warehouse Co., stores finished fireworks and black powder for distribution ahead of Loy Krathong. Workers said the fire started in a packing area. Within four minutes, the first magazine went. Then the second. The sound carried 10 kilometers.

Twelve people were inside the compound. Four were injured. Two remain unaccounted for. The injured suffered burns and shrapnel wounds. They were taken to Chao Phraya Yommarat Hospital. The blast radius flattened a tin-roofed storage shed and cracked walls in 15 nearby homes.

“We told everyone to run. Do not collect anything,” said disaster officer Preecha Srisawat. “Unexploded items were landing in the canal.”

Fire crews could not approach for nearly an hour. Every few minutes a new detonation launched burning debris. Thai PBS reported local officials used a loudspeaker to clear a 500-meter zone. Power was cut. The main road to the industrial park was blocked.

Suphan Buri has a long record of fireworks accidents. Regulations require licensed magazines to be spaced and earthed. Preliminary checks showed this site had expanded storage without updated permits. Inspectors found fireworks stacked directly on concrete floors, not in approved containers.

“We warned the operator in July about overstocking,” said an official from the provincial Industry Office who asked not to be named because the investigation is active. “The license was for 12 tons. There was far more.”

The operator’s family said the facility had passed a district inspection last month. Documents seen by reporters show the inspection was visual only. No chemical inventory was taken.

Tonight the site is cordoned off. Army explosive ordnance teams are moving in with thermal drones. Smoke still hangs low over the village. The missing have not been found.
