Massive Commuter Chaos: 25 Injured in Multi-Vehicle Dubai Crash Involving Three Buses

DUBAI — A serious multi-vehicle pileup on Jebel Ali Road has left 25 people injured and triggered widespread commuter chaos, prompting an urgent safety warning from the Dubai Police.

The chain-reaction collision unfolded on a busy stretch of the highway after a passenger bus suffered a sudden technical fault and ground to a halt in a live traffic lane. According to traffic investigators, drivers of the oncoming vehicles were traveling at speed and had insufficient time to react to the unexpected obstacle. Two following buses and a passenger car failed to brake in time, slamming into the stationary bus and each other in a violent rear-end chain collision.

Emergency medical teams and traffic patrols rushed to the scene. Officials confirmed that the 25 victims sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate and serious. All of the wounded were stabilized at the scene before being swiftly transported to nearby hospitals for further treatment.

"Sudden stoppages due to breakdowns, fuel shortages, or tyre bursts remain a leading cause of severe collisions on our high-speed thoroughfares," warned Brigadier Essam Ibrahim Al Awar, Acting Director of the General Department of Traffic.

The Command and Control Centre of the Dubai Police quickly deployed traffic accident investigators to reconstruct the sequence of events. Meanwhile, heavy traffic patrols secured the area, managed the massive bottlenecking, and cleared the heavily damaged vehicles to restore the normal flow of commuter traffic.

Following the incident, Dubai authorities reminded motorists of the strict legal and safety responsibilities tied to roadside breakdowns. Under the UAE Federal Traffic Law, stopping a vehicle in the middle of a live road is a severe violation that carries a Dh1,000 fine and six black points, alongside an additional Dh500 penalty for obstructing traffic.

Officials emphasized that maintaining vehicle roadworthiness is the first line of defense against such disruptions. In the event of an unavoidable emergency or technical failure, drivers are strictly advised to take immediate action by first activating their hazard lights to alert oncoming traffic. Ensuring the safety of all occupants is paramount, so everyone must safely exit the vehicle and move entirely away from the road to a secure location.

Additionally, if it is possible to do so safely, a warning triangle should be placed at a distance behind the vehicle. Finally, motorists should contact the Dubai Police immediately to receive emergency road safety support.
