Marcos Affirms Respect for Impeachment Process, Pledges Continuity of Governance

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. assured the public on Sunday (January 18, 2026) that he respects the ongoing impeachment process against him and reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the smooth functioning of government.

In a brief statement from Malacañang, the President emphasized that the impeachment proceedings are part of the country’s constitutional processes, and he remains confident that the rule of law will guide the outcome.

“Let me be clear: I respect the impeachment process as provided by our Constitution. At the same time, the work of government will continue uninterrupted, and our focus remains on serving the Filipino people,” Marcos said.

The statement comes amid growing public and political attention to the impeachment complaint filed in Congress, which alleges misconduct and abuse of power. While the complaint triggers formal proceedings, legal experts note that such cases often take months to be thoroughly evaluated and adjudicated.

President Marcos also highlighted the administration’s ongoing programs, including infrastructure development, economic reforms, and public health initiatives, underscoring that governance will not be derailed by political processes.

“The government remains committed to addressing the needs of the nation, ensuring that policies and programs continue for the welfare of every Filipino,” the statement added.

Malacañang officials reiterated that all branches of government are expected to adhere to their constitutional responsibilities and that the executive will cooperate fully with the legislative process.

The President’s reassurance seeks to maintain public confidence and prevent any disruption in government services during the course of the impeachment proceedings.
