Police announced a murder inquiry after Ann Widdecombe, 78, was found dead at her home in Haytor. Authorities said she had serious injuries and that officers were conducting initial enquiries while seeking public help.

As part of the investigation, a 26-year-old man was arrested at an address in Newton Abbot and is being held while inquiries continue. Police said there is no current information suggesting the incident is politically motivated, and they have also said it is not being treated as a terrorist matter.
