Malaysia’s ambassador to the United States was summoned by the US State Department to explain the country’s position on Israel, Bernama reported. Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said the Malaysian envoy informed Washington that Malaysia’s policy—based on longstanding immigration and foreign policy measures—is not new. Hasan said the government reiterated it does not recognise Israel or the Zionist regime. He also referred to an incident involving a person with both US and Israeli citizenship who entered Malaysia on a US passport, after which checks showed Israeli citizenship.
