Major Southeast Highway Crash Leaves Three Fighting for Survival in Gleneagle

GLENEAGLE, AUSTRALIA — A devastating multi-vehicle collision on the Mount Lindesay Highway has left three people fighting for their lives and forced the complete closure of a major southeastern arterial route.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene in Gleneagle early on Monday afternoon, July 6, 2026 following reports of a high-impact crash that left multiple victims trapped inside the wreckage.

The accident occurred just after 1:00 PM on a high-speed stretch of the highway. According to initial reports, at least two vehicles collided head-on, with the force of the impact scattering debris across all lanes and crushing the structural frames of the cars involved.

Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) dispatched multiple paramedic units, including critical care teams and a rescue helicopter, to the scene. Fire and Rescue crews utilized specialized hydraulic cutting equipment for over forty minutes to free two passengers who were heavily pinned inside the cabin of one vehicle.

"The scene was incredibly chaotic. First responders worked frantically to stabilize the patients while rescue crews cut through the metal to get them out. The highway will remain closed for a significant period." — Local Emergency Authority Spokesperson

Paramedics treated a total of four patients at the scene, three of whom sustained life-threatening head, chest, and internal injuries. Among those fighting for survival was a man in his late 20s who was stabilized on-site before being airlifted in critical condition to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital.

Two other severely injured individuals were rushed via an emergency road convoy under police escort to the Princess Alexandra Hospital, where they remain clinging to life. A fourth individual was also treated at the scene but required no immediate critical care, having suffered only minor injuries and shock.

The Mount Lindesay Highway remains closed in both directions near Gleneagle as the Forensic Crash Unit begins its investigation into the cause of the disaster. Heavy traffic delays are building throughout the southeastern corridor, and motorists are being strictly advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.

Authorities are appealing to any drivers who may have witnessed the crash or possess relevant dash cam footage of the highway around 1:00 PM to contact police immediately.
