Major Multi-Vehicle Crash Knocks Down Lamp Post and Shuts Down Geylang Lanes

SINGAPORE — A violent multi-vehicle collision caused widespread traffic disruption in Geylang on Saturday morning, August 15, 2026 knocking down a major street lamp post and forcing authorities to shut down multiple travel lanes during the peak morning commute.

Emergency services received calls regarding a pile-up involving several vehicles along Geylang Road. Upon arrival, responders found a chaotic scene littered with debris, smashed bumpers, and a heavy metal street light completely sheared off at its base.

According to eyewitnesses, the chain-reaction accident unfolded rapidly when one vehicle lost control, striking adjacent cars before careening onto the central median and smashing directly into a lamp post. The force of the impact brought the heavy lamp post crashing down across the roadway, blocking traffic and scattering glass and vehicle parts across multiple lanes.

"There was a sudden, deafening screeching of tires followed by several loud crunches. When I looked up, the lamp post was already tipping over into the street. It was fortunate it didn't land directly on top of another moving car."— Local Shop Owner

Officers from the Singapore Police Force (SPF) and paramedics from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) arrived at the scene shortly after the call. Paramedics immediately assessed the involved drivers and passengers for injuries on site.

While several individuals involved in the pile-up were treated for minor cuts, scrapes, and shock, officials confirmed that no life-threatening injuries or fatalities resulted from the crash.

Traffic police officers immediately cordoned off the affected section of Geylang Road, diverting motorists into alternative lanes and surrounding arterial routes. The closure led to significant traffic congestion extending back several blocks.

Land Transport Authority (LTA) crews were dispatched to clear the downed lamp post, manage oil slicks from the damaged engines, and tow the crushed vehicles from the scene.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the exact sequence of events leading up to the crash, examining dashcam footage and assessing whether slick road conditions or speeding contributed to the accident. Drivers traveling through the Geylang area are advised to anticipate delays while repair crews restore the street light infrastructure.
