Macron Rejects Interior Minister’s Resignation After Riots and Looting

French President Emmanuel Macron rejected Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez’s offer to resign after a weekend of rioting and looting. Macron asked Nuñez to ensure transparency about failures in intelligence-gathering and planning, and to introduce new policing tactics. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu called for limited, localized curfews, while defending police handling of the unrest. Authorities said around 2,400 people were arrested and nearly 1,000 officers injured. The violence followed protests over living costs and public services, with thousands of businesses damaged or looted.
