The town hall in Limoges was “largely lost” after masked protesters set a fire during nationwide demonstrations over the cost of living, local prefect Maurice Barate said. The building’s roof collapsed onto lower floors, and about two-thirds of its exterior had disappeared. Witnesses said protesters torched a police car, broke windows and entered the town hall before starting the blaze. Firefighters worked to contain the fire as crowds watched. Several shops in the city centre were looted overnight in Limoges.
