Lahore Midnight Horror: 11 of Same Family Killed, 6 Injured in Harbanspura Building Collapse

LAHORE, PAKISTAN — A festive family gathering turned into an unimaginable nightmare late Wednesday night, July 29, 2026 after a three-story residential building spontaneously collapsed in Lahore's Harbanspura neighborhood, killing at least 11 members of the same family and injuring six others. Emergency teams are still working frantically at the scene as a minor girl is believed to remain trapped under the massive pile of rubble.

The catastrophic collapse occurred while the family was gathered to celebrate a birthday. According to Harris Ali, spokesperson for the Lahore Deputy Commissioner, the building served as a joint residence for three brothers and their respective families. On Wednesday evening, they were joined by their sister and her children for the celebration.

The joy evaporated in an instant when the structure suffered a sudden, total failure. "The building collapsed floor by floor from the top down," Ali stated, trapping the sleeping and celebrating family members beneath heavy concrete slabs and brickwork within seconds.

First responders from Rescue 1122, alongside district administration officials, rushed to the narrow lanes of Harbanspura following the disaster. The initial death toll climbed steadily into Thursday morning as bodies were meticulously extracted from the debris. The total reached 11 after rescue workers pulled out the body of an elderly woman.

Six surviving family members were pulled from the wreckage with varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to local hospitals for immediate medical attention. Heavy machinery has been deployed to the site to accelerate the clearing of debris as emergency workers carefully dig through the remaining pockets of the collapse, hoping to safely locate the missing young girl.

Lahore Deputy Commissioner retired Capt. Muhammad Ali Ijaz, who is on-site supervising the recovery efforts, has officially ordered an inquiry to determine the exact cause of the structural failure.

The disaster has reignited intense local concern over structural safety regulations in older residential sectors, occurring just a month after a similar roof collapse at a local tuition center claimed the lives of 14 children. Authorities have directed relevant engineers to thoroughly examine neighboring properties to ensure no secondary collapses occur while the final stages of the rescue operation remain underway.
