Kremlin Says Europe's Drone Cooperation with Ukraine Shows Its Growing Involvement in the War

On April 17, 2026, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov announced that European countries have deepened their participation in the ongoing war against Ukraine. This assertion follows a warning from Russia's Defense Ministry about drone production sites that allegedly support Ukraine's military efforts, including locations in the UK, Germany, and several Baltic and Central European nations.

The Defense Ministry published a list of factories believed to produce drones or components used by Ukraine. Among the countries named were Britain, Germany, Denmark, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, the Czech Republic, Spain, Italy, and others. This widespread collaboration has raised alarms in Moscow, with officials claiming that it could have "unpredictable consequences."

Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, now serving as Deputy Chairman of Russia's Security Council, publicly referred to the published list as potential targets for Russia's military. His remarks indicated the possibility of future strikes on these facilities, stating, “When strikes become a reality depends on what comes next. Sleep well, European partners!”

Peskov echoed this sentiment but avoided confirming any immediate plans for military action against European facilities. He remarked, “These countries are becoming increasingly directly involved in the conflict, in the war surrounding Ukraine,” urging a need for caution among European nations.

The announcement comes amidst recent developments in defense cooperation between Ukraine and its European allies, including significant military aid and joint initiatives focused on drone capabilities. Notably, Spain and Belgium recently committed €2 billion ($2.35 billion) in new military assistance to Ukraine, further enhancing its operational capabilities.

As tensions continue to escalate, the Kremlin’s warnings serve as a reminder of the increasing complexity of the war and the pivotal role that European nations play in supporting Ukraine’s defense against Russian aggression. The implications of this cooperation, both militarily and diplomatically, will likely shape the conflict's trajectory in the months ahead.
