Kenyan President William Ruto has ordered Tata Chemicals to end operations at its Magadi soda ash facility, accusing the Indian-owned company of extracting resources without creating enough local benefits. The government plans to bring in new operators required to build glass and chemical-processing plants in Kajiado County. Officials also cited unresolved licensing, royalty, export-reporting, employment, procurement, and environmental concerns. Tata’s operations were suspended in July, and the company has challenged the decision in court, seeking permission to resume.
