Johor Crash: Car Flips Over After Driver Reportedly Suffers Sudden Heart Attack

KOTA TINGGI, Johor — A late-night drive turned fatal in the early hours of Friday morning when a 47-year-old motorist suffered a sudden medical emergency behind the wheel. The incident caused his sedan to spin wildly out of control and overturn, pinning the driver inside.

The tragedy unfolded at approximately 2:45 a.m. on Friday, June 26, 2026 along KM5.1 of Jalan Kota Tinggi-Kluang, near a local hotel.

Kota Tinggi District Police Chief Superintendent Yusof Othman confirmed that the single-vehicle accident involved a local Malaysian man driving a Proton Saga. A 46-year-old Malaysian woman was also traveling in the vehicle as a front-seat passenger.

Preliminary investigations indicate that while navigating the stretch of highway, the driver unexpectedly suffered a severe heart attack. Stripped of the ability to steer or brake, the driver lost complete control of the vehicle. The Proton Saga skidded off its trajectory and violently flipped over, coming to a dead stop directly on its roof in the middle of the roadway.

First responders and traffic police rushed to the scene following emergency calls from passing motorists. Photographed evidence from the site showed the sedan completely inverted with substantial roof and windshield damage.

Tragically, the 47-year-old driver sustained severe trauma from the rollover alongside the cardiac event and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical teams. His body was subsequently extracted and transferred to the Forensic Unit at Kota Tinggi Hospital for a formal post-mortem examination.

The 46-year-old female passenger miraculously survived the high-impact rollover. Emergency medical services stabilized her at the scene before transferring her to the same hospital, where she is currently receiving urgent care for her injuries.

The local traffic police division has officially cordoned off the segment of the road to reconstruct the crash dynamics. "The case is being actively investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," Supt Yusof Othman stated, noting that this is standard procedure for motor accidents involving a fatality.

Authorities are waiting on final autopsy findings to definitively confirm if the cardiac episode was the sole trigger for the collision.
