Israeli Settlers Beat AFP Photographer in Occupied West Bank

Jaafar Ashtiyeh, a 58-year-old Palestinian photographer working for Agence France-Presse, was beaten by armed Israeli settlers near the West Bank village of Aqraba on Tuesday. He suffered bruising to his head and torso and was taken to hospital for observation. His colleague John Wessels said the attackers struck Ashtiyeh with rifle butts and took his camera equipment. The journalists were covering Palestinian farmers harvesting olives. AFP and the Foreign Press Association called for an investigation, including into why nearby Israeli soldiers did not intervene.
