Inferno Hits Downtown: Firefighters Fight Flames at Marysville Mixed-Use Building

MARYSVILLE, Calif. — Fire crews swarmed downtown Marysville on Thursday afternoon, September 10, 2026 as a heavy fire broke out inside a historic, mixed-use building, forcing emergency responders to race against time to prevent the blaze from spreading.

The fire was reported on the third floor of an attached multi-story structure located at 421 D St., in the heart of Marysville’s historic downtown district. According to the Marysville Fire Department, the building features commercial businesses occupying the ground level with residential apartments situated on the upper floors.

Plumes of smoke poured into the sky as multiple ladder trucks and fire units deployed hose lines to suppress the flames. Firefighters focused heavily on containment to keep the inferno from leaping to adjoining historic structures in the densely packed commercial row.

It remains unclear how many residents were inside when the fire erupted or if any injuries have been reported. Authorities have not yet confirmed the number of displaced tenants or the extent of structural damage to the lower-floor businesses.

Local traffic around the area was rerouted as emergency crews closed off surrounding blocks to clear space for heavy apparatus and supply lines. Drivers and pedestrians are advised to avoid the downtown core while operations continue.

Mutual aid support from neighboring agency departments was called in to bolster the response as teams worked standard defensive-to-offensive operations. Auxiliary crews set up temporary shelter coordinates for residents forced onto the street, while local humanitarian aid organizations began coordinating emergency relief services for affected families.

As night fell, fire crews remained on-scene conducting overhaul operations and monitoring lingering hotspots within the compromised upper walls. Structural engineers and fire investigators are expected to conduct a comprehensive walk-through on Friday morning to determine the root cause of the ignition and assess whether the historic brick framing can be safely salvaged.
