KARACHI, Pakistan — A massive fire broke out on Monday at a garment factory warehouse in the SITE industrial area near Metroville, engulfing the facility's upper floor and triggering a large-scale emergency response.
The blaze erupted at a warehouse facility located on Plot No. The facility, Plot A-14, contained large stocks of highly flammable yarn cones and raw textile materials. Dense black smoke billowed into the sky as flames spread rapidly through the upper floor, threatening adjoining industrial units in the densely built manufacturing hub.
Firefighting crews from Rescue 1122 and the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Fire Brigade rushed to the scene shortly after the alert was raised. Operation teams tackled the inferno from both inside and outside the premises, deploying over 11 fire tenders, multiple water bowsers, and heavy snorkel units to reach the elevated flames.
"Teams are working continuously to contain the flames and prevent the blaze from spreading to adjacent facilities," reported officials at the scene, adding that specialized equipment was brought in to overcome limited entry points and thick smoke logging.
Beyond the immediate structural damage, local trade representatives warn that the destruction of the warehouse could lead to significant financial losses and temporary job displacement for hundreds of factory workers dependent on daily shifts. Plant managers and supply chain coordinators are currently assessing the extent of the inventory lost in the fire, as delays in raw material distribution threaten to disrupt production schedules across connected garment manufacturing units throughout the Karachi industrial district.
The incident has raised immediate concerns among local authorities and industrial stakeholders, particularly after officials noted that a fire had reportedly erupted at the exact same location just days prior.
Industrial safety advocates continue to highlight the critical need for enforced fire safety standards and automated suppression systems across Karachi's manufacturing hubs, where storage of highly flammable textile goods poses an ongoing hazard for workers and rescue personnel alike. Cooling operations remain underway as authorities investigate the official cause of the ignition.
