Samarinda, Indonesia— A maintenance technician died following a catastrophic electrical discharge at a heavy manufacturing plant in Samarinda on Tuesday morning. The worker was inspecting a high-voltage distribution panel when the surge occurred. Colleagues attempted immediate resuscitation, but the victim succumbed to his injuries before paramedics arrived.
The facility’s power grid experienced a sudden voltage spike moments before the incident. Company officials are currently determining whether the surge originated from the plant's internal system or an external utility line.
