Indonesian Official Says “We Send Oxygen Too” Amid Regional Haze Concerns

Syahganda Nainggolan, head of Indonesia’s Government Communications Agency, responded to concerns in Singapore and Malaysia about haze from Indonesian forest and land fires. “We’re not just sending over the haze. When there’s no haze, we send oxygen,” he said, adding that oxygen in neighbouring countries comes from Indonesia’s forests. He also described the fires as a natural phenomenon and said the government was explaining its response to neighbouring countries. Malaysia has raised the issue with Indonesia, while Singapore has offered assistance with firefighting efforts.
