Indigenous Leaders Condemn Pauline Hanson’s “Primitive Race” Remarks

One Nation leader Pauline Hanson is facing widespread condemnation after comments from a podcast resurfaced in which she called Indigenous Australians “the most primitive race on Earth.” Indigenous Australians Minister Malarndirri McCarthy rejected the remarks as derogatory and urged Australians to oppose divisive commentary. Indigenous senators Kerrynne Liddle, Jacinta Nampijinpa Price, Lidia Thorpe, and Jana Stewart also criticised Hanson. They highlighted First Nations peoples’ sophisticated systems of law, culture, trade, governance, and land management, warning against rhetoric that promotes division.
