India Launches First Hydrogen-Powered Train Built in the Country to Expand Clean Energy on Railways

India rolled out its first indigenously built hydrogen-powered train to expand clean energy on its rail network. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the “NaMo Green Rail” at Jind railway station in Haryana. The train includes two hydrogen-powered driving cars and eight passenger coaches, designed to operate at speeds up to 75 kph and carry about 2,600 passengers. It features on-board hydrogen storage and refueling infrastructure to support pilot testing across India’s network as the country pursues cleaner transport and lower carbon emissions
