India Formally Joins US-Led Pact Pax Silica on Supply Chain Security

On February 20, 2026, India formally joined the Pax Silica initiative, a US-led pact designed to create resilient supply chains for critical minerals, semiconductors, and AI technologies. The official signing took place during the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, attended by Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw, US Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs Jacob Helberg, and US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor.

India's partnership in Pax Silica is viewed as a critical milestone for both countries, particularly as they seek to enhance cooperation amid a backdrop of geopolitical tensions and technological competition. Helberg stated, "It is a profound honor...to mark a historic milestone in the partnership between the United States and India." He emphasized the necessity of building trusted networks to secure economic growth and technological advancements.

The Pax Silica initiative was launched in December 2025 and aims to establish a secure, innovation-driven supply chain addressing all aspects of the silicon stack, from raw materials to semiconductor manufacturing and AI infrastructure. Current members of the coalition include Japan, South Korea, Australia, and the UK, among others.

In his remarks during the signing, Jacob Helberg referenced the historical significance of the declaration, stating that it represents a roadmap for a shared future. He further criticized coercive dependencies, asserting a commitment to collaborating for mutual benefit.

This alliance positions India as a key player in the global technology ecosystem, especially in the semiconductor sector, as the nation increases its focus on manufacturing and innovation in AI technologies. The entry into Pax Silica signifies India's ambition to shape supply chains resilient against geopolitical uncertainties and to align itself with trusted partners in the tech arena.

As the two nations strengthen their ties, the pact underscores a commitment to collaborative growth, fostering an environment where both economies can thrive through innovation and technological exploration.
