‘I Don’t Want to Talk About It’: Belgian PM Explains Why EU Summit Did Not Move on Frozen Russian Assets

Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever declined to discuss the frozen-asset dispute after an EU summit failed to advance a plan to use Russian funds for Ukraine. Belgium has resisted the proposal because most assets are held by Brussels-based Euroclear, exposing the country and the clearing house to potential legal claims and Russian retaliation. EU leaders continue weighing other options, with no agreement yet on Ukraine funding and support for Ukraine.
