Hungary Publishes Draft Wealth Tax Legislation

Hungary’s government has published draft legislation for an annual net wealth tax covering individuals and certain asset-holding structures. It would apply to net wealth above HUF 1 billion, at 1% up to HUF 100 billion and 1.5% on wealth above that level. Residents would be taxed on worldwide assets, while non-residents would generally face tax on specified Hungarian-linked holdings. The proposal also sets out valuation and reporting rules. It remains draft open to public consultation and may change before adoption.
