Hungarian PM Orders Danube Water-Level Measures to Keep Cooling Water Flowing at Paks Nuclear Plant

Hungary’s prime minister announced emergency measures to raise Danube water levels needed to cool the country’s only nuclear power plant at Paks after record lows forced operational concerns. The government ordered the immediate construction of a temporary weir on the Danube between the two river banks near Paks and Dunaszentbenedek, using 35,000 cubic metres of stone initially, with additional work planned. He also said two 80-metre barges will be placed on standby so the water level can be raised by sinking them if required until the weir is completed.
